Jeong

West Town·Korean tasting menu·$$$$

Jeong sits at twelve because it has made a permanent and quietly influential argument that Korean cuisine belongs in the highest conversation in this city.

On West Chicago Avenue at the Noble Square edge of West Town, Jeong arrived in 2019 as one of the more deliberate restaurant openings in recent Chicago memory. Chef Dave Park and partner Jen Tran built a room whose minimalist restraint — dark walls, subtle light, careful spacing — puts all emphasis on the food. The tasting menu moves through Korean flavors and seasonal ingredients in a sequence that reveals both depth of tradition and a modernist's eye for texture and contrast. Nothing on the menu apologizes for being Korean; everything is simply allowed to be excellent.

Recognition from the Michelin Guide arrived because the kitchen is consistent and serious. The service is attentive without being performative, the pacing is considered, and the overall experience rewards diners who arrive with curiosity rather than familiarity. Jeong has done more to expand the Chicago fine-dining conversation than most restaurants twice its size.
